Choosing the Right Ride for Your Family
Every child’s comfort level, riding experience, and confidence on a bike is different, so rather than setting a strict age requirement, we prefer to evaluate younger riders individually.
Our first priority is making sure kids feel prepared, comfortable, and excited about the experience. Some younger riders do well on more challenging tours, while others may be happier with a relaxed route, an e-bike, or a child seat setup, depending on the ride.
Please keep in mind that some routes include roads with cars and traffic. While we do our best to explore quieter, off-the-beaten-path areas with less traffic, vehicles may still be present on certain routes.
If you’re considering bringing your kids along, we’re happy to talk through the options and recommend the best experience for your family. A quick conversation about ages, heights, riding experience, and comfort levels helps us make sure everyone has a fun, well-supported, and memorable day out together.

Client Reviews
“Went for a 2 hour mtn bike ride mid-week with my 12 and 15 year old kids. Great equipment and support; the e-bike for my daughter did the job. Charming and informative guide, she was attentive to my kids ability and needs. We can’t wait to come back!”
— TripAdvisor Review“Our family of five (kids ages 17, 14 and 12) had a great bike tour this week led by Dan and Jeremy. They were both engaging and informative - we learned so much about this area of the island and got in some great bike miles, too. It was just the right amount of stops (including a visit to a fantastic tropical fruit stand) to make sure everyone enjoyed the ride w/o feeling like they were lagging behind.”
— TripAdvisor Review“Booked a private family mountain bike ride on Mana Road and it was definitely a highlight of our trip. Jeremy, our local guide, quickly and efficiently showed us the ropes on the e-bikes and got us outfitted and geared up to ride in no time. He tailored the tour to our 9 year old, giving her confidence yet letting her push herself and her comfort level. He even shared with her his private stash of kid friendly snacks like fruit leathers, peanut butter Ritz and mini Oreos. The slopes of Mauna Kea are gorgeous and the weather was sunny and cool so couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend a Saturday.”
